Business Hours of Municipalities - Should they include a weekend morning?

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

On a quick trip around to GTA Municipalities I found one thing in common, if you need to go to City Hall anywhere or a Town Hall , you have to go during the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Remember back years and years ago when you had to be to the bank by 4:00 or 4:30 but at least on payday they stayed open till 6pm ! At one time you had to take time off work to go to the dentist, the doctor and practically any service was during 9-5, that does not help when you work 9-5 yourself. (more…)

John Tory - Liberal Party Needs you

Friday, March 6th, 2009

One of the reasons I was glad to see Mr. Tory sent packing from the PC Party is because I just don’t believe he is Conservative enough.

Once Mr. Harris took over they should have dropped the “P” , they do not want to be a progressive party but a right wing capital “C” conservative party . They should do it now and start over.

John Tory - Results - Yes I am a little smug about it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Finally something goes the way I want it to. As of right now it looks like Mr. By-election Tory went down.

Way to go Rick Johnson !!!! Can’t believe I said that - LOL. It’s another Rick Johnson . That name seems to be popular in politics for some reason, there is a senator or a congressman or someone who ran for it in the USA with the same name.

I never felt this was a legitimate by-election in the first place, others disagreed with me, but it was the cause of it that still irks me.

I feel really bad for Laurie Scott, she stepped aside for him.

Congrats to Rick Johnson again.

Someone else agrees with Mr. Baker

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I loved this letter to the editor agreeing with Mr. Baker.

I wonder which way it really goes though, some town’s question the need for a CAO if they have a real hands on Mayor , I think this happened in Brock or some area in North Durham or York.

Does Ajax maybe have a condition of Staff doing what the Mayor wants ?

Do we have a CAO that is under the Mayor’s thumb or do we have a council under the CAO’s thumb ? (more…)

Ward Boundary Review

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I have been sold to Ward 3 along with Scott Crawford. Option 4A is the preferred plan that Staff had and at the GGC voted for it — I doubt anyone voted no.

I wanted at Large as you know but my second choice was east west split of two wards.

We paid a consultant $5,000 dollars to have the Town go with the choice they more then likely wanted right from the start.

And I was right in my prediction– no one cared since we were not getting a new politician out of the deal.

Joanne and Colleen may want to pay Rennick to take me back? :)

Toronto Star Editorial-

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Here is todays Toronto Star Editorial, some interesting comments also.

I think term limits are good because no matter how good you are, there will always be a new way of approaching an issue and a fresh set of eyes to see a problem.

Citizens also should be able to take complaints to the Ontario Ombudsman !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still think we need to move Trustee elections to the same time as Provincial Elections. It made sense to elect Trustees when we elected local councillors because at one time the Municipality set the taxes, it is the Province now. We should be voting for the trustee when we are voting for an M.P.P. and Education is actually on voter’s minds.

Apologies to Pickering

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I am late in doing this but a while ago I wrote a letter to the Editor of news advertiser about the Stop the Stink issue. Someone then wrote a letter telling me off so to speak. Well upon reflection I will apologize, it is true, I don’t live there and can’t truly understand what they are going through.

I want to restate again that as the letter I wrote said- I had some questions, they were answered by the Pickering letter writer and I don’t know about you but sometimes I read letters to editor with a tone of voice in my head, this person I think took my words perhaps as sarcastic and it was not meant to be that way.
