A Neighbourhood trapped! — You can’t get there from here

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

It becomes easy in this Town to just go about your habits and your regular routes and never notice other neighbourhoods because if you have no friends living there you may have no reason to drive in it.

Today my son wanted to go to a certain place we go for hot chocolate and it is not the one that starts with “T” , there is only one location in Ajax. I said ok but the next time we go I want to walk. This was the only reason I noticed the configuration of this neighbourdhood in progress. I can only hope it does not stay that way.

Ward 3 - Challenger for Joanne Dies — This is my Ward.

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

We have a new candidate in Ward 3 .

Marsha Jones Dooley
103 Church Street South
Ajax, ON L1S 6A9
Business: 905-427-3595
Cell: 416-902-7611
E-mail: jdinsure@rogers.com
Nominated: 23-Mar-10 at 2:40 p.m.

This is the Ward I have been realigned to . A search on her name shows her active in the Pickering Village District study issues.

We have 2 Candidates for the Public Board now, Brian Johnson is running in Ward 3 and 4 and Eric White in Wards 1 and 2. Disclosure: I know Brian Johnson personally.

My son will be going to the Separate Board in September so I am not going to be commenting on anything in the Public Board election as it won’t affect me anymore and I don’t know anything about the Separate Board so I will just wait to see what happens.

The car in this picture is parking in a space at Ajax Town hall that is reserved for Hybrid cars. I have noticed non hybrid cars in the space before but never a car that is said to be the Mayor’s !

It is being claimed the Mayor of Ajax, who is also the owner of a smart car , parked his non hybrid car in the space.

Why does he think this is ok ? I did send him an email asking him if it was his car and for his comment on it.

I await a response.

Remember all the sinking manholes I was complaining about last year ? Of all the sinking manholes I was referring to, the only one that was fixed was on the street the Mayor’s law office is on.

“It’s good to be the king”

[Edit] I took a drive on the way home from a meeting and looked at the parking space sign myself– it is not specifically a “hybrid” parking space. It is a staff reserved space to encourage carpooling so they don’t have to walk a long distance. Carpooling cars can park there and hybrids or I guess a smart car also.
The Committee meeting is in the evening, there are staff in attendance for these meetings so technically if that was the Mayor’s car , did he carpool ? So he is not completely off the hook but it was evening and not the busy time of the day when majority of cars in the lot.

Learned this on own, no email explaining anything from the Mayor of course.

This post was not on a serious issue so the fact that I did not do due dilligence on the pic I posted a link to, no big deal, was just some municipal fun.

Sunshine Day is coming - April 1st

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

April 1st is the day to check the Ministry of Finance to see the $100,000 plus club. I download the table for Durham Region and the Municipalities. I will put it all in excel and we can see how many more the Town of Ajax has as compared to last year.

Last year we saw large % increases due to cashing out of vacation time for Directors. This perk was not available to everyone.

Parking enforcement - is it applied equally in your area?

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Have you ever experienced a ticket and wondered why you had it and not the car up the street in your neighbourhood ?

I have had a few emails on the subject so let’s look into this revenue stream.

It has been a mild winter so a car in the way of a plow has not been an issue.
