The Exempt Group- I found some info - on my own - salary increase info.
May 2008 this outlines upcoming “Exempt” group. Means the Managers. http://www.townofajax.com/AssetFactory.aspx?did=4770
wage rates for the Town’s Exempt Group be increased by
3.25%, effective January 1, 2009
3.75%, effective January 1, 2010
2.75%, effective January 1, 2011;
For the raises that were effective January 2008 is this
http://www.townofajax.com/AssetFactory.aspx?did=4245
Recommendation:
That:
1. Council approve an increase to the Exempt wage scale by 3.25% effective January 2008.
So now I am still confused but I sent another email looking for the Mayor to clear it up. He is a lawyer after all so he can get to the nitty gritty of it all. My calculations show increases larger then this amount.
We need to know how the numbers are arrived at and all components of a salary should be disclosed in the minutes.
Does an outside review committee review these at all ?
What is the Exempt Group- exempt from ?

It pays to be ignorant? The more facts & figures one tries to obtain in order to be informed & to be an active participant with our elected representatives the more one gets frustrated, angry, disappointed, disillusioned & turned off because it’s like a mission impossibe undertaking. All the information you’ve provided makes me wonder all the more about matters in Ajax that should concern me. Unfortunately members of Town Council have motivated me to be a much less involved & interested resident. Silence seems to be the preferred way for council to deal with residents especially with those that ask too many questions. Of course staff is always there to provide answers (even in writing) but always remind us that it is council that makes all the decisions. So where are we & why & where are we going …. read all about it online at the Town’s website or sign up for their e-news.
Karem: I am still waiting for answers, I just want to understand it. Do we have performance pay? Council approved a 3.25% raise but who approves the monies above that then? I will not accept silence, not this time. I am not attacking anyone, hell I am not even attacking a councillor! Their raise after years of nothing really is a drop in the bucket, there is only 7 of them!.
All Salaries , raises, new hires , increases— Exempt and collective bargaining should be dealt with at the same time. It should be a single meeting — oh oh– maybe the Budget meetings? seems like a good time to me to discuss this type of thing. Don’t you agree?

There was an article in today’s News Advertiser about the salaries. How many people do you think will be writing to the editor to voice their opinions?. I’m guessing ZERO. We’ll all complain about it for the first week or two. By next month nobody will give this a second thought. It’s quite sad really.
I believe in people making a fair wage and I’m sure some of these jobs require a certain level of knowledge. That being said, who decides what each of these jobs are worth?. aren’t our MPPs making just over a $100,000?. How does council justify paying some of these town officials the same rate?.
Karem: Yes I saw that but note the following, that is only the council and their raise, no mention of staff at all. That it seems was in May and January. You are right, maybe one or 2 letters will be sent in. I value knowlege but you know what, our CAO makes more money according to that list then the Ombudsman of Ontario– look at what Andre Marin did for Lotteries, Childrens’s Aid, accountability in this Province. The Ontario Ombudsman has probably the least amount of people on that Sunshine list!
