Not one new name yet - Ajax

No one wants to run for council here ? No fire in anyone’s belly enough to get on that list the day the gates open ?????

What about the incumbents ? They are not even declaring they are running or not. Except for the Mayor slot.

What does this all mean ?

I know we are not Toronto but Pickering has some healthy activity , Whitby has less but some races are showing.

Come on Ajax , let’s get going.

shall I direct you to the page with the nomination papers? lol

Karem: I am looking here, it has the Mayor’s name so why wouldn’t other candidates names be on it ?
http://www.townofajax.com/Page4404.aspx it says nominated candidates on it. I saw the pdf’s before and again it was only the one trustee and the Mayor’s name showing. Where are you looking? Is there somewhere else it is hiding? On a second read, I get it now– no not at this time, Mom issues so this is not a good year :)

Have you ever seen the movie Groundhog Day?. That’s pretty much how this election will play out. Nothing ever changes. This election will be another cakewalk for them. The councillors and mayor don’t even have to spend money on lawn signs, flyers, or any other form of election material. I can’t say I’ve ever seen any of them knocking on doors.

I’ve lost interest in what happens on Ajax council. When you consider all the important issues facing the town and council is making up stupid laws like limiting the number of bird feeders a person can have on their property, that’s when I’m left shaking my head.

Over the years there’s been some good candidates running for a seat on council and they’ve brought some good ideas to the table. Sadly, none of them have ever come close to winning the race (if you can even call it a race!). Based on the low voter turnout, I guess most residents of Ajax are satisfied with what’s going on here. I guess they are pleased that their taxes continue to rise.

The only person who did get things done was long time resident and former councillor Joe Dickson. The only thing I didn’t agree with was when he got elected to Ajax Council and less than a year later decided to run for a seat in the Provincial government. The cost to replace him on Ajax council cost taxpayers about $40,000. I was not pleased with this but obviously I’m the only person who felt this way. The Provincial election will be coming up shortly too. What’s stopping another member of council from doing the same thing after they get elected to the town?. I think this needs to stop and the law changed to prevent this from happening again in the future.
