Who should I vote for ?
for Mayor? I will vote for Councillors and if I decide to not vote for Mayor can I do that? does that spoil my ballot if I don’t fill in all my choices?
Just wondering.

You can absolutely choose to not vote for a particular office. It doesn’t spoil your ballot.
I will not be voting for mayor given the current candidates
Karem: Maybe I will vote for the Alpaca?

You certainly have the choice whether or not to vote for Mayor. But here’s my question: Why wouldn’t you???.
I’ve already come up with my own voting strategy. Vote for ANYBODY other than who’s already in there. I don’t know the candidates all that well but I do know the current members of council and I’m willing to take the chance and give these other people my vote.
Just because these other candidates are unknown is no reason to reward the current bunch on council another term.
Karem: The challenger for Mayor , I just don’t think she has what it takes. I don’t like the current Mayor either so I really don’t have a choice.

One of these days the candidates will surely reveal to us why we should vote for them. No matter what is revealed I shall not vote for an incumbant and unless the other candidates show themselves to be unworthy I shall vote for change re each position on council. It’s time for change … a complete makeover of Ajax Town Council is needed. That’s the message I’m spreading.

I agree with Michael on this one. I always get a laugh out of the old saying about voting for the devil you know rather than voting for the one you don’t. Well… I’ll take my chances and vote for the one I don’t know.
Listen, it’s time we get some new faces on council. I hear a lot of people complaining about the direction this town is going and it just gets worse everytime you open the paper. The problem is that many people don’t get out and vote. They figure somebody else will do it for them. Why even bother having a municipal election in Ajax because there’s really no race. I can’t remember the last time a member of this council has ever put out lawn signs or mailed out advertising. All these people have to do is put their name on the ballot and they’re automatically re-elected. It’s amazing. I will say one thing. The other candidates better start getting themselves known in the community NOW!.
There’s been a lot of things over the years that have annoyed me with this council. Aside from stupid by-laws like limiting 3 bird feeders to a property (can’t believe this was even discussed) but buying a rundown church and spending more money then originally estimated. Rebuilding an outdoor pool for more than originally estimated. Charging the Kinsmen club $400 to rent benches after all the volunteer work they do here??.
Time for a change

everyone has the right to vote or not vote for any position. I feel not voting does not get anything done. It is actually like voting for the person you don’t like, for it you don’t increase the votes of any other of candidates, you are helping that person you don’t want in.
Change definitely needed.
The Regional 1 and 2 race is actually two incumbents so that should be interesting. I’ve already made my decision on that one.
The Ward One race that I am in will be interesting as well, since there is no incubmant.
But if you don’t vote then you let apathy win.
So I either vote for someone I don’t like or vote for someone who is not qualified , as far as I am concerned. I don’t know but apathy is really looking like the winner for the Mayor’s seat at least. I realise this choice results in supporting the mayor but at least I don’t have to put my “X” for him.

Karem,
How can you say the other person is not qualified?. What sort of experience do you need to be mayor of this town?. The same could be asked of many people running our different levels of government. I mean you had Ronald Regan who was a Hollywood actor for many years and suddenly he’s running the country.
Do any of these candidates in Ajax have websites yet?. I have not seen anything or received any flyers introducing themselves. I honestly hope some of these people are visiting your blog Karem because they need to start getting themselves known in this town. Don’t wait until a month before the election before you start knocking on doors. The earlier you start the better!.
I just don’t think she is aware enough of issues that’s all. I guess you will see at the debate if she participates.

SM you must not be in Ward 3 ! I’ve been out there since I filed. Website updated as often as possible. Every home has been hit at least once with my first brochure, some more and my second is set to go. The responses at the doors have been great.. I’ll be campaigning all weekend! As far as the only challenger to Mayor I hope to get together with her this week and find out what her platform is and what her campaign team are doing.

Karem: I can confirm I have received material in the mailbox from you.

Marsha is correct… I don’t live in Ward 3. Is there anything that prevents candidates from advertising in the paper or billboard this early into the campaign?.
All I’m saying is that candidates need to start doing a better job of getting themselves known if they want to win this. I’m glad that Marsha is doing something but I hope that others will do the same.
Newspaper is very expensive and not a lot of people read the local paper. Door knocking is the best way for new candidates.

Ok… I just checked out the Marsha Dooley website. Very impressive. Looks like we have something in common (Genealogy & UEL ancestors). Good layout and the pictures are a nice touch.
